At present, operators generally use more single-core optical cables, and ribbon optical cables(ribbon fiber cable) are generally used in urban core resident networks. The common models are 144-core or more or 288-core optical cables, all of which are ribbon optical cables, each with 12 cores.
A dedicated ribbon fusion splicer is used for fusion splicing, and is often used in the construction of the backbone optical cable ring network in the urban area. The large fiber core of the optical cable is more convenient for the local network optical delivery box service jumper. Long-distance inter-provincial trunk optical cables rarely use ribbon optical cables. To put it simply, ribbon optical cables are used for local network relay segments that require a large core capacity.
